When Is Season 3 Coming?

Season 3 is confirmed, but it's not coming super soon.

  • Season 1: January 2023
  • Season 2: April 2025
  • Season 3: Likely sometime in 2027

We might not wait as long this time — filming could go faster!

What Happened in Season 2?

Spoiler alert for those who haven’t finished Season 2!

The biggest moment? Joel dies. Abby kills him, and Ellie goes on a mission to get revenge.

But Abby had her reasons — Joel killed her dad to save Ellie back in Season 1. Now both of them are stuck in a cycle of pain and revenge.

What Will Season 3 Be About?

Season 3 will focus on Abby’s side of the story.

We’ll see the same Seattle events from her perspective. And we’ll also learn more about the big conflict between:

  • WLF – Abby’s group, a military-like organization
  • Seraphites – A mysterious, religious group with strange beliefs

The creators said: “We haven’t seen the last of Bella Ramsey, Kaitlyn Dever, or even characters who died.”

How Did Season 2 End?

Season 2 ended with a huge cliffhanger. Abby and Ellie face each other in a dark theater. Jesse is already dead, Tommy is hurt, and everything goes black after a gunshot.

No one knows who got shot. We’ll find out in Season 3.

Who’s Coming Back?

Even if some characters died, the showrunners said they could return through memories or flashbacks.

Expected Cast in Season 3:

Character Actor Status
Ellie Bella Ramsey Alive
Dina Isabela Merced Alive
Abby Kaitlyn Dever Alive
Tommy Gabriel Luna Injured
Maria Rutina Wesley Alive
Isaac Jeffrey Wright Unknown

How Many Seasons Will There Be?

The creators said the story is too big to finish in just one more season.

So here’s the plan:

  • Season 3: Focuses on Abby’s journey
  • Season 4: Most likely the final season

"There’s no way to complete this story in just Season 3." – Craig Mazin

Where Can You Watch It?

You can watch both Season 1 and Season 2 right now on Max (formerly HBO Max).
