Belly and Jeremiah’s Engagement in The Summer I Turned Pretty 3 – Why I Still Root for Conrad

Belly and Jeremiah’s Engagement in The Summer I Turned Pretty – Why I Still Root for Conrad
the summer i turned pretty 3

I’ve watched every single episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty since its dreamy debut and let me tell you: nothing could have prepared me for this trailer. When I say I gasped, I mean full-on clutched-my-heart, ugly-cried, texted-my-group-chat gasped.

In the brand new trailer for the final season, we find out that Belly is engaged to Jeremiah. Yes. Engaged. As in, rings, vows, and a wedding on the horizon. And while Jeremiah stans may be celebrating (and I respect that!), my inner Team Conrad heart is absolutely shattered. Because guess what? Conrad still loves her. And Belly’s heart isn’t done with him either.

"First loves are important... but they're not as important as lasts." Belly

That line, set against a haunting remix of Taylor Swift’s “Red (Taylor’s Version)” and “Daylight”, nearly broke me.

Why This Final Season Is Going to Hurt (in the Best Way)

Let me take you back...

When I first watched Belly fall for Conrad in season 1, it felt like watching the sun rise. Then Jeremiah entered the scene, and suddenly, it was like having to choose between a calm beach and a warm fire—both comforting, both dangerous.

But now? The stakes are higher than ever. The trailer picks up years later, at the end of Belly’s junior year of college skipping ahead from where Jenny Han’s third book left off. The drama? Multiply it by ten.

"We're getting a wedding. But we’re also getting all the feelings. No one is walking away untouched this time."

Jeremiah and Belly Are the Future... But Conrad Is Still the Past That Hurts

In the trailer, Belly is trying to convince herself she’s made the right choice. She and Jeremiah look blissfully happy on campus laughing, holding hands, kissing like they don’t have a painful past behind them.

Meanwhile, Conrad is in California, looking like a ghost of himself, still telling strangers about how Belly was his one true love. I screamed. I rewound. I screamed again.

Jenny Han Warns: “Someone’s Going to Be Devastated”

I’ve followed Jenny Han since the original book trilogy, and she’s always known how to twist the knife gently. She told Entertainment Weekly there would be changes from the books and oh, are we seeing them now.

“A successful love triangle,” Han says, “is one where, no matter what happens, someone’s going to be devastated.”

If that’s not a warning to brace ourselves, I don’t know what is.

Where I Stand: Team Conrad Forever (But I Respect You, Jere Hive)

Let’s be honest: there’s no wrong team here. If you love Jeremiah, I get it. He’s sunshine, stability, and makes Belly feel safe. But Conrad? He’s the boy who knew her first. He’s heartbreak and poetry and passion. And for me, he’s always been the one.

Still, this season is promising a “satisfying conclusion.” Whatever happens, I just hope Belly chooses herself too.
