Apple Stock Tumbles as Trump Fires a Direct Shot at iPhone Production Abroad
In a fiery post on Truth Social early Friday morning, former President Donald Trump declared Apple will face a 25% tariff—or more on any iPhone not manufactured in the U.S.
“I have long ago informed Tim Cook of Apple that I expect their iPhones sold in the United States to be made in the U.S.—not India or anywhere else,” Trump said. “If not, Apple must pay.”
Apple's stock dropped more than 2% in premarket trading.
iPhones Could Skyrocket to $3,500 If Made in the U.S., Analysts Warn
Most Apple iPhones are made in China, but the company has been moving production to India. Now, Trump’s tariff threat could shake up that strategy.
Analyst Dan Ives of Wedbush says if iPhones were built in the U.S., the price could jump to $3,500 per unit. Compare that to today’s iPhone 16 Pro, which costs about $1,000.
Apple Silent, But Trump Keeps Turning Up the Heat
Apple has declined to comment on the threat, but the pressure is mounting. Trump met with CEO Tim Cook at the White House just days ago.
Apple previously committed $500 billion to U.S.-based development, including AI servers in Houston. Cook also donated to Trump’s inauguration and attended the 2017 ceremony.
Global Ripple: From India to China, Apple’s Caught in a Trade Storm
On top of Trump’s tariffs, Apple is also dealing with weak iPhone demand in China. To win back customers, it has increased trade-in incentives across the region.
Apple’s global strategy has been careful and deliberate—but these escalating trade tensions might force dramatic changes.
🇺🇸 Not Just Apple: Trump Calls for 50% Tariff on EU Goods
In another Truth Social post, Trump proposed a 50% tariff on products from the European Union, hinting at a possible return to the global trade wars of previous years.
With multiple tariff threats in the air, investors are bracing for a possible surge in tech prices and supply chain turbulence.
