LOS ANGELES — HBO has officially announced the lead cast for its highly anticipated Harry Potter television series, naming newcomers Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout as the iconic trio of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley, respectively.
The announcement comes after a global casting search that drew more than 30,000 young hopefuls. The new adaptation, which HBO promises will be a “faithful retelling” of J.K. Rowling’s bestselling book series, is set to begin production soon and will stream exclusively on HBO Max.
“Their Magic Is Real,” Say Showrunners
In a joint statement, showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director/executive producer Mark Mylod said:
“After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.”

What Makes This Series Different?
Unlike the original movies, this HBO version is planned as a multi-season series, with each season covering one book in full. This allows for deeper storytelling, more magical details, and scenes that were left out of the films.
The series is being developed by HBO in partnership with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television, with J.K. Rowling returning as executive producer.
More Wizarding World Content on the Way
This series joins a growing lineup of Wizarding World content, including the Fantastic Beasts movies and the stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which continues to run globally.
Recently, HBO confirmed that John Lithgow has been cast as Albus Dumbledore, a central figure in the story.
When Will It Air?
The series is expected to premiere in 2026, according to BBC News. It will stream on HBO Max in the U.S., Germany, Italy, the U.K., and more countries as the platform expands.
