Musk Says He’s Refocusing on Business |
X (formerly Twitter), owned by Elon Musk, went down for users across India, the U.S., and Canada—but now it’s back.
Elon Musk’s social media platform X—which was earlier known as Twitter—had a major outage that stopped users from logging in or viewing posts. Many people across India and other countries, especially the United States and Canada, reported that the platform wasn’t working properly. When users tried to open the app or the website, they saw an error message that said: “Cannot retrieve posts at this time. Please try again later.”
The technical issue was first noticed around 6:18 p.m. (local time) on Saturday, May 24, 2025. According to Downdetector.com, a site that tracks online outages, more than 2,000 users in India reported problems. At the same time, over 25,000 users in the U.S. and 2,200 in Canada also faced similar issues. The problems included not being able to log in, problems with the app, and website errors.
Thousands Hit by X Crash Across India, U.S., and Canada
The outage was biggest in the United States, where Downdetector showed that more than 25,699 people complained. Out of these:
- 68% had login issues
- 24% had problems with the app
- 8% said the website didn’t work
In Canada, around 2,230 users also faced problems:
- 45% couldn’t log in
- 39% had app issues
- 16% saw errors on the website
The issue was also widely discussed on other platforms, with many users confused and frustrated. The company X did not give an official reason for the problem, and didn’t immediately respond when contacted by reporters.
Musk: ‘Time to Refocus on X, Tesla, and Starship’
After the issue was fixed, Elon Musk posted that he would now be spending more time at work to prevent such problems from happening again. He said that the outage showed how much improvement is needed in the platform’s technology.
“As evidenced by the X uptime issues this week, major operational improvements need to be made,” Musk wrote.
He also mentioned he’d be working 24/7 again, sleeping in conference rooms, and giving full attention to X, xAI, Tesla, and the upcoming Starship launch. He admitted that the system that was supposed to back things up “did not work” as it should have.
Service Restored, But Questions Remain
By 11:00 a.m. Saturday (or 3:00 p.m. GMT), the platform appeared to be working normally again for most users. While the service is back, the cause of the outage still isn’t clear, and X has not yet shared any detailed explanation or future plan to avoid such failures.
For now, users are back online, but the issue raised concerns about the reliability of one of the world’s biggest social platforms, especially as it expands into new business areas under Musk’s leadership.
